Davis Square’s most loved sports bar gets a face lift

Opened in 1997 by young restaurateurs Martin Murphy and Joe Arcari, the Joshua Tree has been one of the centerpieces in the ever changing Davis Square bar and restaurant landscape.  While the bar and its loyal guests remain as vibrant as ever, the building that houses this local institution is getting a much needed makeover.

Guests new and old will notice the updated décor, fresh paint and new open layout. The Joshua Tree has commissioned custom art pieces that will adorn the whitewashed classic brick walls featuring the color and flavor of the neighborhood it has served for more than 15 years. Local artist Quinton Kappel will be painting a mural celebrating the Joshua Tree’s history as Davis Square’s home for Boston Sports.

Patrons of the Joshua Tree will be thrilled by sports action reflecting off its brand new 106” HD projector screen and recently upgraded QVC sound system that broadcasts game sound as well as some of Boston’s most well known DJ’s. The DJ line up includes resident DJ El Sid who has spun at some of the hottest night spots in Boston, Cambridge and beyond. These changes compliment their already abundant 50” HD flat screens that have helped thousands share some of the most memorable moments in Boston Sports History.

In addition to the cosmetic upgrades the ownership and management are especially excited to announce a complete overhaul of the entire draft beer system. While the Joshua Tree has always been known for its innovative and exciting products, they are elated to offer their customers a custom, state of the art delivery system that will pour clean cold beer out of freshly minted 32 tap custom draft towers.

These changes are part of a larger organizational shift that began this past year. The Joshua Tree recently rolled out a new and exciting menu that stays true to its sports bar roots while offering more chef driven, fresh, and local dishes as well as daily specials and featured menu items. The drink menu is ever evolving and brings guests a wide array of choices from award winning draft and bottle beers, to handcrafted cocktails and classic wines.

The New Year will bring an exciting “happy hour” menu (Monday through Friday from 4pm until 7pm) featuring exciting small plates and discounted classic menu items. Guests are welcome to relax after work in a casual and friendly environment.

While their outward appearance will change, their commitment to their customers and their neighborhood are unwavering. The Joshua Tree has been and will continue to be a local treasure to many in the Davis Square community.
